The Bellingham Dharma Hall
Mission Statement and Case
Statement |
Mission:
To provide and maintain facilities for individual and group Buddhist meditation practice, classes, and events.
Who are our customers ?
We have three kinds of customers: (1) group members (Shambhala, Vipassana, Mindfulness, and Zen), (2) individual members, and (3) people in the surrounding area who are interested in Buddhist practice or study.
What do our customers want or need ?
Groups need a stable central infrastructure, practice space, and meditation accessories; individual members want access to a Buddhist practice hall, information on Buddhist activities, and a library of Buddhist books and tapes; non-members want a place to practice and learn more about Buddhism.
What are our services to groups and individuals ?
(1) We maintain a stable organizational infrastructure through management by a responsible and responsive board. (2) W e maintain meditation and study facilities, (3) We provide fiscal management via a common dues structure* (4) We schedule hall use among the four groups. (5) We serve as a clearinghouse of Buddhist information for members and visitors
What is our value to our customers ?
(1) Sharing of the Dharma Hall by the member groups provides people in the community at large with an unusual opportunity to explore easily and freely the varying practices and programs of study of four major Western Buddhist lineages. (2) Cooperation among the groups enriches their understanding of the greater Sangha of Buddhism in general. (3) Our common dues structure eliminates duplication of effort among the groups by managing the money for their practice accommodations. (4) By pooling all members' money, this system enables members to have much better accommodations & services than any group or individual could afford. (5) Because dues are paid by individuals, they can move freely among the groups without the need to change membership.
What resources do we need?
We need (1) an accessible and larger physical space to accommodate current and future needs, (2) money and (3) willing volunteers.
*The common dues system of the Bellingham Dharma Hall is a system of dues in which individuals pledge payments independent of group membership
