The Bellingham Dharma Hall was started
in November 1993 as a community supported space for Buddhist meditation
practice. The Hall is unique in that four different Buddhist groups—Shambhala,
Vipassana, Mindfulness, and Zen—share the space. Each individual group hosts
one weeknight evening meditation, Monday through Thursday, starting at 7:00 pm
as well as one weekend program per month. There is also a general sitting on
weekday mornings at 6:30 am where members of any tradition are welcome to come
and meditate together. In addition, individuals are encouraged to use the Hall
at any time. The Hall is also the site of retreats, talks by teachers, and many
other gatherings.
The existence of the Bellingham Dharma
Hall is completely dependent on regular donations from individuals who believe
in the importance of maintaining this place of practice. In keeping with the
Buddhist tradition of offering the teachings freely, there is no obligation to
become a member in order to use the Hall, but if you sit with one or more of
the groups regularly, or appreciate the presence of the meditation hall in our
community, we greatly encourage you to become a member. Members generally
donate between $10.00-$50.00 per month, but any membership donation is
gratefully received.
Hall members
receive a complimentary copy of the quarterly Bellingham Meditation Newsletter,
which includes a calendar of Dharma related events within the community. Members and visitors alike are welcome to
make use of our excellent library of Buddhist books and tapes.
If you have any questions about the
Hall, about membership, or other ways you can support Buddhist practice in
Bellingham, please ask any of the leaders of the meditation groups, or contact
our member liaison Caroline Kingsbury at (360) 734-9903.
The Bellingham Dharma Hall is a publicly supported 501 (c)
(3) non-profit corporation (EIN#91-1972225). Your annual pledge is entirely tax
deductible.
